Qui est-ce ? Présenter la personne
Structure. Nom + was / is + a / an + adjectif + métier : Agatha Christie was a famous British writer. — Usain Bolt is a Jamaican sprinter. Pour une personne morte → was ; vivante → is.

Le squelette d'une vie : was born … died

Attention ! was born est toujours au passé (is born) et toujours avec be (borned). died est régulier, mais dead est l'adjectif : He is dead.

Les verbes de la biographie

Attention ! founded (a fondé) vient de found ; found (a trouvé) vient de find. Et lead → led (pas leaded).

Dire les dates et les âges
Années. On coupe en deux : 1890 = eighteen ninety ; 1969 = nineteen sixty-nine ; 2005 = two thousand and five ; 2013 = twenty thirteen. 1900 = nineteen hundred.
Dates. On écrit 4th July 1776 ou July 4th, 1776 ; on dit the fourth of July ou July the fourth. Prépositions : in 1776 / in July, on 4th July.

Exemple. Rosa Parks was born in 1913 in Alabama. In 1955, she refused to give her seat to a white passenger on a bus. After that, she became a symbol of the civil rights movement. She died in 2005 at the age of 92.

Une biographie modèle
Rédaction. Charlie Chaplin was a British actor and film director. He was born in London in 1889 and he grew up in poverty. In 1910 he went to the USA with a theatre company. He created his famous character, the Tramp, in 1914, and made his first long film, The Kid, in 1921. In 1940 he directed The Great Dictator. He moved to Switzerland in 1952 and died there in 1977, at the age of 88. He is considered one of the greatest comedians of all time.
