Turner is a famous English painter. His paintings show the sea and the sky. — painter (la personne), paintings (les œuvres).
My uncle is a musician: he plays the violin in an orchestra. — play the + instrument.
Shakespeare wrote plays, not songs.

1) ce que je vois : In the picture, I can see… / There is… / There are… ;
2) où : in the foreground / background, on the left / right, in the middle, at the top / bottom ;
3) les couleurs : The colours are bright (vives) / dark (sombres) ;
4) mon impression et mon avis : It looks + adjectif (It looks calm), I think…, In my opinion,… ; une hypothèse : maybe, perhaps, probably.
| Position | Français |
|---|---|
| in the foreground | au premier plan |
| in the background | à l’arrière-plan |
| on the left / on the right | à gauche / à droite |
| in the middle (in the centre) | au milieu |
| at the top / at the bottom | en haut / en bas |
Impression, avis, hypothèse
| Anglais | Français |
|---|---|
| It looks sad / funny / strange. | Ça a l’air triste / drôle / étrange (looks + adjectif). |
| The cloud looks like a sheep. | Le nuage ressemble à un mouton (looks like + nom). |
| I think it’s beautiful. / In my opinion, it’s strange. | Je pense que c’est beau. / À mon avis, c’est étrange. |
| Maybe it’s autumn. / Perhaps she is lost. | C’est peut-être l’automne. / Elle est peut-être perdue. |
| It’s probably a fairground. |
Girl with Balloon, Banksy. In the picture, I can see a little girl in black and white. Next to her, there is a red balloon. The balloon looks like a heart. The girl is reaching for it, but it is flying away. Maybe it’s a picture about love. It looks a bit sad, but in my opinion, it’s beautiful.
En 2018, une version encadrée s’est en partie déchiquetée juste après sa vente aux enchères, grâce à un mécanisme caché par Banksy : l’œuvre s’appelle depuis Love Is in the Bin.
Réflexe — je décris dans l’ordre : je vois (I can see), où (position), couleurs, impression (It looks…), avis (In my opinion) et hypothèse (maybe).
Attention — on the left, at the top, mais in the middle : la préposition change. « It looks like sad » est faux : It looks sad (adjectif) mais It looks like a heart (nom). « May be it’s winter » : Maybe en un seul mot.

| Pour parler de… | Phrases utiles |
|---|---|
| la chanson | It’s a slow / fast song. It’s a pop / rock / rap song. |
| la musique | The melody is beautiful. I can hear a guitar and drums. |
| les paroles | The lyrics are about love / friendship / the sea. The chorus is easy to sing (le refrain). |

The Beatles
Chansons connues : Yellow Submarine (1966), Hey Jude (1968), Here Comes the Sun (1969). The Beatles est un nom pluriel : The Beatles are from Liverpool.
« Here Comes the Sun » is a slow, happy song by the Beatles. George Harrison wrote it and sings it. I can hear an acoustic guitar. The lyrics are about the end of a long winter. It makes me feel calm.
Dans le film Mary Poppins (1964), Julie Andrews et Dick Van Dyke chantent un mot inventé de 34 lettres et 14 syllabes : su-per-ca-li-fra-gi-lis-tic-ex-pi-a-li-do-cious, « something to say when you don’t know what to say ».
» by …), genre et rythme, instruments (I can hear…), paroles (The lyrics are about…), ressenti et avis.
Attention — « The lyrics is » : The lyrics are. « The Beatles is » : The Beatles are. « a slowly song » : a slow song (adjectif devant le nom).
