Maya's diary — Sunday, 14th September

We moved from Leeds to Pitlochry, a small town in Scotland, three weeks ago, and I still don't feel at home. I wish I knew more people here. At my old school, I had a big group of friends; now I eat my lunch alone most days. If only Grace, my best friend, lived nearer! We video-call every evening, but it isn't the same.

To be honest, part of it is my fault. On my first day, a girl called Isla invited me to join the hiking club, and I said no because I was too shy. I wish I hadn't said that! The club climbed Ben Vrackie last Saturday, and the photos of the view looked amazing.

And then there's my brother, Leo. He plays the drums in his bedroom until eleven every night. I wish he would stop, or at least play a bit more quietly!

Still, Mum says that new beginnings are always hard. Tomorrow I'm going to find Isla and ask her if there's still a place in the club. I hope she says yes.
