Le présent be + -ing : l’action en cours et le futur proche
Fiche méthode
(Anglais 6ᵉ · Grammaire · Le présent be + -ing (A1/A1+))
La démarche pour employer be + -ing
1. Je choisis le temps grâce au repère : habitude (every day, usually) → présent simple ; maintenant (now, Look!) ou projet proche (tonight, this weekend) → be + -ing ; verbe d’état (like, want, know) → présent simple.
2. Je forme be + -ing : am / is / are selon le sujet + base verbale + -ing.
3. Je vérifie l’orthographe du -ing : e muet supprimé (making), consonne doublée (running), -ie → -ying (lying), travelling.
4. Je transforme sur be : isn’t / aren’t / I’m not + V-ing ; question : be + sujet + V-ing ?
Cas 1 · Former be + -ing
Réflexe — am / is / are + V-ing ; e muet, consonne doublée, -ie → -ying.
Exemple 1. Conjuguer : « (my grandparents / dance) My grandparents ___ in the kitchen. »
my grandparents = they → are ; dance perd son e.
My grandparents are dancing in the kitchen.
Exemple 2. Mettre à la forme négative, puis à la forme interrogative : « Sara is cutting the bread. »
cut double son t. Négation : Sara isn’t cutting the bread.
Question : Is Sara cutting the bread?
Attention — « He is runing » : He is running ; « Do you working? » : Are you working?
Cas 2 · Présent simple ou be + -ing ?
Réflexe — habitude → présent simple ; maintenant ou projet proche → be + -ing ; verbe d’état → présent simple.
Exemple 1. Choisir : « Hugo usually (walks / is walking) to school, but today he (takes / is taking) the bus. »
usually = habitude → walks ; today, exception du moment → is taking.
Exemple 2. Traduire : « Nous allons à la piscine demain. »
Projet décidé avec un repère futur → be + -ing.
We’re going to the swimming pool tomorrow.
Attention — « She is wanting a pizza » : She wants a pizza ; « I’m going to school every day » : I go to school every day.
