Vocabulaire des discriminations & sensibilisation : racism, equality, tolerance, bullying

Parler des discriminations et du harcèlement en anglais : vocabulaire, contraires, should pour les solutions, passif pour décrire l'injustice.

Vocabulary

discrimination (to discriminate against), racism, sexism, ageism, a prejudice, a stereotype, hate speech.
equality, tolerance, respect, diversity, fairness : indénombrables, sans article au sens général.
a minority, a victim, a target, a disability / disabled, to exclude, to reject, to include, to accept, to judge somebody by their appearance, to look down on.
Repère : Equality Act (UK, 2010).

to bully, a bully (bullies), bullying, cyberbullying ; plus grave que to tease (taquiner).
a victim, a witness, a bystander (spectateur passif).
to make fun of, to mock, to insult, to call somebody names, to spread rumours, to leave somebody out, to threaten.
to speak up, to report, to tell an adult, to stand up for ; to feel ashamed / lonely / hopeless.

un- : unfair, unequal, unkind, unsafe, unwelcome.
in- : intolerant, injustice, inequality, invisible.
dis- : disrespect, disadvantage, dishonest, disability.
im- (p, m) : impossible, impolite ; il- : illegal ; ir- : irresponsible.
-less = sans : homeless, helpless, hopeless ; -ful : respectful.

should / shouldn't + BV : We should include everyone. You shouldn't share that post.
must / mustn't : règle stricte.
I find it unfair / unacceptable that…, everyone deserves respect, nobody should be judged, whatever their origin, instead of + V-ing.

be + participe passé (+ by + agent) ; la victime devient sujet.
Présent : she is bullied, they are excluded ; prétérit : he was hit, they were rejected ; present perfect : she has been bullied ; modal : nobody should be judged.
Accord de be avec le sujet ; participes : hurt, hit, left, paid, chosen, forbidden.
Sans agent = « on » : He was called names.

L'essentiel

Discrimination, racism, equality, tolerance : noms indénombrables, sans article ; to discriminate against.
Bullying : a bully harcèle a victim ; a bystander regarde sans agir ; il faut speak up et report.
Contraires : un- (unfair), in- (injustice), dis- (disrespect), im- (impolite), -less (hopeless).
Solutions avec should / shouldn't + base verbale ; opinion : I find it unacceptable that…
Passif = be + participe passé : she is bullied, they were excluded, nobody should be judged.
