Exercice 1 — Compréhension de l'écrit : un récit au discours indirect
/ 4 ptsDocument 1. Extract from a pupil's diary, Bristol.
« Wednesday. Today Mr Adebayo, our head teacher, came into the classroom. He told us that the school had won a national science prize and that a TV crew would come the following Monday. He asked us whether we wanted to be interviewed, and everybody said yes. Then he explained that the journalists were interested in our recycling project, and he asked Priya if she could present it in English. She said she was too shy, but he told her not to worry: he promised that he would help her prepare. Before leaving, he reminded us to wear our uniforms properly and warned us not to be late that day. Maya whispered that she had never seen Mr Adebayo so happy. »
- What two pieces of news did the head teacher give the class?
- What did he ask Priya, and how did she react?
- Rewrite in direct speech (with quotation marks) the head teacher's promise and his last warning.
- Explain in French why the text says « the school had won » and « a TV crew would come », and not « has won » / « will come ».
Exercice 2 — Compréhension de l'écrit : lecture d'un tableau
/ 4 ptsDocument 2. Messages left on the answering machine of a vet's surgery on Friday.
| Time | Caller | Message (direct speech) |
|---|---|---|
| 8:05 | Mrs Khan | « My dog isn't eating. Can I bring him this morning? » |
| 9:40 | Mr Doyle | « I'll collect the medicine tomorrow. » |
| 11:15 | Lucy Bell | « Where is the new car park? I can't find it! » |
| 14:30 | The lab | « Please call us back before five today. » |
| 16:50 | Mr Doyle | « Don't prepare the medicine, my cat is better. » |
- How many messages were left, and who called twice? What changed between his two calls?
- On Saturday, the receptionist reports Mrs Khan's message to the vet. Write the two sentences in reported speech (« Mrs Khan said that… and asked if… »).
- Report Lucy Bell's question and the lab's request, with « wanted to know » and « asked the surgery… ».
- Report Mr Doyle's second message with « told » and explain in French why « tomorrow » in his first message becomes « the next day » when reported on Saturday.
Exercice 3 — Grammaire : passer au discours indirect
/ 4 pts- Rapporte avec « She said (that)… » : « I'm waiting for my results and I'll know tomorrow. »
- Rapporte avec « He asked me… » : « Have you ever been to Ireland? » / « Why are you laughing? »
- Rapporte avec le verbe indiqué : « Don't feed the ducks. » (The keeper warned us…) / « Could you close the gate, please? » (She asked me…)

Exercice 4 — Verbes introducteurs et repères

- Transforme les repères : now, tonight, last week, next year, here, these → discours indirect.
- Explique en anglais la différence de construction entre « say » et « tell », avec un exemple correct pour chacun.

- Report one question the teacher asked the class and one question a pupil asked (« asked if / whether » and a wh- question).
