School subjects
- Sans majuscule : maths, history, geography, chemistry, physics, biology, art, music, drama, P.E., ICT, D.T.
- Avec majuscule : les langues — English, French, Spanish, German.
- Maths / physics = singulier : Maths is hard.
- my favourite subject, a compulsory subject, an option, a timetable, a mark / a grade, homework (indénombrable).

Likes and strengths
- love / enjoy / quite like / don't really like / can't stand / hate + nom ou V-ing.
- good at / bad at / hopeless at + nom ou V-ing (jamais in).
- interested in, keen on + nom ou V-ing.
- Adjectifs : useful, useless, boring, fascinating, demanding.

The British school system
- secondary school (11-16, Years 7-11) → GCSEs à 16 ans.
- sixth form / college (16-18) → A-levels ≈ le bac ; ou un apprenticeship.
- university → a degree (3 ans).
- college ≠ collège ! US : middle school, high school, college.
- a pupil / a student, a form tutor, the head teacher ; « je suis en 3e » = I'm in Year 10.

Exams
- take / sit an exam = passer ; pass = réussir ; fail = rater ; retake = repasser.
- revise (for) = réviser ; a mock exam, the results, a certificate, a diploma.
- Brevet ≈ GCSEs (fin de collège) ; bac ≈ A-levels.

Plans
- want to / would like to / plan to / hope to + BV ; be going to + BV (intention) ; might + BV (peut-être).
- to become a vet ; to study Ø medicine ; to go to university.
- a career adviser, a vocational course, an apprenticeship, a gap year, to drop a subject.
- Justifier : because + phrase, because of + nom, in order to + BV, so that + phrase, so (conséquence).

L'essentiel
- Matières sans majuscule, sauf les langues ; maths et physics sont singuliers.
- Good at / bad at, interested in, keen on ; verbes de goût + V-ing.
- Secondary school (GCSEs à 16) → sixth form / college (A-levels) → university ; college ≠ collège.
- Take = passer, pass = réussir, fail = rater, revise = réviser.
- Projets : want to / would like to / be going to + BV ; justifier avec because, in order to, so that.
