Last July, my parents suggested spending two weeks at a surf camp in Cornwall. At first, I refused to go: I hate sleeping in a tent and I can't stand cold water! But my cousin Leila promised to come with me, so I finally agreed to try.
The first morning was a disaster. I tried to stand up on the board ten times and I fell into the water ten times. Our instructor, Kate, kept smiling and told us to stop worrying. “Try looking at the beach, not at your feet,” she said. It worked!
After a week, I managed to ride my first wave. I'll never forget feeling so proud. In the evenings, we enjoyed playing volleyball on the beach, and we stopped to watch the sunset every night.
Now I miss surfing every day. I'm thinking of joining a surf club near home, and I've decided to save money for a wetsuit. I'm really looking forward to going back next summer!
