Document 1. Extract from the welcome letter of Ashford Summer Camp (Devon, England).
« Dear campers, welcome to Ashford! Here are a few rules to make your stay safe and fun. We let you keep your phones, but we make everybody switch them off from 10 pm to 8 am. Campers are allowed to swim in the lake only when a lifeguard is on duty; nobody is allowed to swim after dark. We don't allow visitors to enter the dormitories, so please meet your family in the garden. Every camper is made to help in the kitchen once during the week — don't worry, our cook Priya will make it fun! On Friday night, we let the oldest group organise the farewell party, and we allow everyone to stay up until midnight. Finally, please let us know immediately if you feel ill or unhappy: our staff are here for you. »

Document 2. Survey: « What do your parents let you do? » — 120 pupils aged 14-15, Bath Community School.

1. How many pupils took part in the survey? Which permission is the rarest, and what percentage of pupils have it?
2. For which permission are the pupils almost equally divided? Give the two numbers.
3. Rewrite the comment « They make me stay in and revise » in the passive form, starting with « I ».
4. Write two sentences comparing lines 3 and 4 of the table, using « let » in one and « be allowed to » in the other.

3. Give an example of something an adult let you do recently, in the preterite (« let »).
4. Conclude by saying what rule you would change and why, using « allow » or « let ».
