Cette évaluation sur « Familles et communautés » en seconde permet de faire le point sur ses connaissances en anglais (lva), comme lors d'un véritable contrôle.     "Growing up as the child of immigrants, you learn early that home is not a place but a feeling. My parents left the Caribbean in 1975 with two suitcases and a determination to give us a better life. We settled in Birmingham, where the Jamaican community was well-established.   2. (a) Identify the type of document and its source. (1 point)
  3. (b) Where did the narrator's parents come from, and where did they settle? (1 point)

  1. Rédigez un court texte en anglais (80 à 100 mots) répondant à la question suivante :

Exercice 1 — Compréhension écrite
Corrigé :
(a) It is an oral testimony / a personal account published in the BBC Archive in 2018. (1 pt)
(b) The narrator's parents came from the Caribbean / Jamaica and settled in Birmingham (UK). (1 pt)
(c) The Sunday rice and peas meal represents a cultural and emotional connection to Jamaica. As the narrator says: 'a reminder that though we were far from the island, the island was never far from us.' It keeps the community's roots alive despite geographical distance. (2 pts)
(d) The narrator means that home is defined by feelings of belonging, culture and shared memories, not by a physical location. Even though they live in England, their Jamaican culture (food, community) makes them feel at home. (2 pts)

Exercice 2 — Grammaire : Temps du récit
Corrigé :
(a) came (prétérit simple — in 1998 = date précise passée) (1 pt)
(b) grew up (prétérit simple — action terminée dans le passé) (1 pt)
(c) was cooking (past continuous — action en cours quand un événement (arrived) survient) (1 pt)
(d) has lived — present perfect car la situation dure depuis le passé jusqu'au présent (for + durée). (1 pt)
(e) have never celebrated — present perfect car l'expérience couvre une période allant jusqu'au présent (since they moved here). (1 pt)

Exercice 3 — Vocabulaire : La famille et la communauté
Corrigé :
(a) foster — Emma a été élevée par une famille d'accueil (foster family). Blended = recomposée ; extended = élargie. (1 pt)
(b) community — La communauté locale (local community) est celle qui organise des événements. Household = foyer ; relatives = famille. (1 pt)
(c) siblings — Ils partagent un père = demi-frère/sœur = half-siblings (ou siblings ici dans un sens large). Relatives = proches ; next of kin = plus proche parent légal. (1 pt)
(d) sense — L'expression figée est sense of belonging (sentiment d'appartenance). (1 pt)

Exercice 4 — Expression écrite : Mon point de vue sur la famille
Corrigé — exemple de production attendue :
In my opinion, the traditional family model — a married couple with children — is no longer the only relevant model. Modern families take many different forms, as illustrated by the TV show 'Modern Family', which depicts nuclear, blended and same-sex families living side by side. Society has changed and families have adapted. However, I think that traditional values such as mutual support and loyalty may still be very important for many people, regardless of the family structure. What matters most might not be the model itself but the relationships within it.
