Ce cours de anglais en quatrième sur « Le cinéma et la musique » suit le programme officiel de anglais de quatrième. Il présente les définitions, les propriétés et les méthodes essentielles, accompagnées d'exemples résolus pour bien comprendre. Au cinéma : le vocabulaire des films

Règle. a film (GB) = a movie (US). On watches a film, on goes to the cinema (GB) ou to the movies (US). Le film is about (parle de) quelque chose, il stars (a pour vedette) un acteur et il is directed by (est réalisé par) un réalisateur.

Attention ! « un comédien » = an actor ; a comedian est un humoriste. Et « un acteur joue » se dit an actor plays a part, pas does.
Exemple. The film is about a robot who wants to become a chef. It stars Emma Stone and it was directed by Taika Waititi.

Les genres de films

Règle. Un genre = a kind of film / a type of film. Pour dire ce qu'on préfère : My favourite kind of film is… (favourite en anglais britannique, favorite en américain).

La musique et les instruments

Règle. Jouer d'un instrument = to play the + instrument : She plays the cello. Jamais play of the, et l'article the est obligatoire.

Donner son avis et le justifier

Règle. Une opinion = une formule d'avis + une raison. I think (that) this film is brilliant because the plot is gripping. Le that est facultatif.

Attention ! I think that is good : il faut un sujet après thatI think that it is good. Et « à mon avis » = in my opinion, pas in my mind.

Les adjectifs pour décrire un film ou une chanson

Règle. L'adjectif se place avant le nom (a gripping thriller) ou après be / find (The ending was moving. I found it moving.). Il est invariable : two boring films.
Astuce. Nuance avec un adverbe : really / very / pretty (assez) / quite (plutôt) / a bit (un peu) + adjectif. Absolutely se combine avec les adjectifs forts : absolutely hilarious, jamais very hilarious.

Raconter un film au prétérit

Règle. Pour raconter une séance passée, on emploie le prétérit : Last weekend I went to the cinema and saw a musical. It was two hours long and it ended with a huge dance number. L'intrigue elle-même se raconte souvent au présent : The film is about a girl who…
