Corrigé détaillé

Exercice 1 — Stratégies de lecture : définitions et usages
Corrigé :
Skimming : reading quickly to get the general idea of a text (theme, structure, genre) without reading every word. Tip: read the title, sub-title, first and last sentence of each paragraph.
Scanning : searching for a specific piece of information (a date, name, statistic) without reading the whole text. Tip: let your eyes run over the text looking for capital letters, numbers or key words related to the question. (Award 1 pt per strategy for the definition + 1 pt per strategy for a valid practical tip — 2+2=4 pts.)

Exercice 2 — Inférence et morphologie des mots
Corrigé :
Partie 1 :
overestimate : prefix over- = too much → to estimate something too highly / exagérer l'estimation.
powerless : suffix -less = without → without power / sans pouvoir.
reorganise : prefix re- = again → to organise again / réorganiser.
harmful : suffix -ful = full of → causing harm / nuisible.
Partie 2 : Context clues: protesters are demanding it, they are angry. 'Accountability' means being responsible for one's actions / being answerable to others — here, the protesters want the embassy to answer for what it has done. (2 pts: 1 pt for correct meaning + 1 pt for contextual justification.)

Exercice 3 — Connecteurs logiques et cohérence du texte
Corrigé :
Partie 1 :
1. Therefore (conséquence) — 2. Due to (cause) — 3. For instance (exemple) — 4. Although (concession) — 5. Furthermore (addition).
(0.5 pt per correct answer — max 2.5 pts)
Partie 2 : 'However' introduces a contrast/opposition. The first sentence establishes that renewable energy is growing; 'however' signals that despite this positive trend, fossil fuels (coal) are still dominant. It warns the reader not to be too optimistic. (1.5 pts: 0.5 pt for naming the relation + 1 pt for explanation.)

Exercice 4 — Identification du registre et du point de vue
Corrigé :
Partie 1 :
• Extract A: formal register. Features: no contractions (It is); elevated vocabulary (imperative, commencement, prior to); impersonal/passive construction.
• Extract B: informal register. Features: contraction (don't); colloquial vocabulary (Hey guys, stuff, kicks off, okay); direct address.
(1 pt for correct identification of both + 1 pt per extract for valid linguistic features = 3 pts total)
Partie 2 : The tone is biased/persuasive. Justification: the word 'obviously' (stance adverb imposing the author's view) or 'simply don't care' (dismissive, judgemental language) — any one valid example accepted. (1 pt)

Exercice 5 — Analyse d'un extrait : procédés stylistiques et compréhension
Corrigé :
a) The stylistic device is anaphora — the repetition of 'We must' at the beginning of three consecutive sentences. Its effect is to create emphasis and rhythm, building urgency and motivating the audience to act. (1 pt for naming anaphora + 1 pt for effect)
b) Any two valid features, for example:
Modal 'must': expresses obligation/urgency — pushes the audience to act.
Short, punchy sentences ('Every voice matters. Every choice matters. The time is now.'): create impact and are easy to remember.
Parallel structure ('Every voice matters. Every choice matters.'): reinforces the message rhythmically.
Evaluative vocabulary ('injustice'): emotionally charged, appeals to the audience's sense of right and wrong.
(1 pt per valid feature with justification — max 2 pts)
